New Groove

Based in Berlin, Susanne normally works as a light engineer in events. She tells us: “I suffer from depression and have been trying to give it a face through painting and sculpture.”

“Especially not knowing when this will end, not being able to earn money bothers me. Travelling has been a vital part in my life so far and being stuck in my flat drives me crazy.”

Creativity helps her express her anger, helplessness, feeling lost, isolated... “Feelings expressed are not as
threatening as feelings unexpressed” (!!!)

“I express what I feel - and that is often ugly. My main concern is to show people how depression feels and that it almost always hides behind a smiling face, that is “just fine”. I work with paintings, colourful faces on black cardboard, clay sculptures and window installations to express the isolation factor”

We love the meaning behind this work! You can find more of Susanne’s mental-health-inspired art at @sanne.berlin ! 🎭
